Description:
This is an original watercolor painting I made. It depicts the tricuspid valves in the heart, which prevents backflow from the right ventricle into the right atrium. This is truly one of my absolute favorite paintings. It looks good in these pictures, but I have to say that in person it is just stunning. The style and palette was inspired by the subtle but striking colors of an oyster shell. I also love how the composition of the painting draws in the viewer, and how the valve shapes just hint at the abyss it protects. The painting was done on hot press watercolor paper and comes float mounted in a gorgeous custom 1 7/8" solid Ash wood frame. This frame is a work of art in itself, with its heavy grain and natural subdued blonde color.
A little about float mounting: Instead of layering a mat board on top of the art, the artwork is instead “floated” 3/8” above a mat. Spacers are used to separate the glass and frame from the art and mat board, suspending your piece between the materials. It is a lovely way to show off the textured edge of watercolor papers, to preserve the visibility of a signature and to add a little drama to the art.
